Joe Cocker & Matt Serletic Choose the Warm, Modern Sounding CharterOak SA538B on Lead Vocal
ENFIELD, CT - (Sept 27, 2010) - The CharterOak SA538B large diaphragm condenser microphone captured the lead vocal tracks for music legend and multi-award winner Joe Cocker.
Cocker, along with Grammy Award winning producer Matt Serletic, choose the
SA538B for the singers soulful voice on the upcoming album "Hard Knocks"
(Sony Music - Oct 2010). The album was recorded at Emblem Studios in Los Angeles.
CharterOak has been at it for five years now and has seen a steadily
increasing number of top artists and producers turn to CharterOak for both
microphones, and signal processors. However, in the last year, the brand has
received quite a bit more attention caused by world-wide popularity of the
incredibly unique SCL-1 Compressor Limiter, a Resolution Award nominee.
"We're very thankful each and every time a user buys our product, and then
contacts us to rave about it. In December, an engineer working with Serletic
emailed us to say that the SA538B had just won a shoot out on the Joe Cocker
sessions, and how AWESOME the mic sounded on the tracks." Remarks CO's VP of
This is the third hit album linked to producer Serletic and a CharterOak
SA538B. Both Rob Thomas, "Her Diamonds" and Gloriana's, "Wild at Heart"
tracked lead vocals with an SA538B. Joe Cocker set out to create a modern
sounding record. In this context, the huge, warm, and detailed sound of the
SA538B, was particularly well suited for Cocker's rich, iconic voice. Doug
Trantow, engineer for the upcoming "Hard Knocks" release said of the SA538B,
"it has all the size and detail of a great vintage U47, but in addition it
has a slight midrange forwardness that results in a more focused and modern
vocal sound. It has been the most consistent winner in our rather rigorous
microphone shootouts, and we have used it this year with Joe Cocker, Pat
Monahan, and Rob Thomas among many others. Our locker includes vintage M49,
U67, U47, C12, etc....but the "CO" is the only new mic we have that ever
beats the classics."
